Event Description

The Watershed Association, in partnership with the City, US Forest Service, and The Nature Conservancy, ad others, have prepared a management plan aimed at protecting the Municipal Watershed (the closed forest that feeds our reservoirs) against the risk of catastrophic fire, through best management practices. You can read an overview of the plan in the Upper Watershed web page of the Watershed Association's website. An early draft of the full report is also available for download from that page (4MB) and a new and better draft will be posted there by Feb. 27, so you will have time to read it, or at least the Executive Summary, before the March 12 meeting. The plan recommends that City water consumers and the Forest Service share the costs of managing the forests that feed the Municipal Watershed in a roughly 50-50 cost-share. The benefits to water consumers would be a better managed forest than would otherwise be the case. The meeting on March 12 will provide a briefing on the plan and the logic behind it, and then will open up for comments, questions, and discussion. Please come and share your thoughts!
