Wildlife right of ways Posted by Staci Matlock on February 12, 2009 at 10:40am in Running wild View Discussions Wildlife corridors are key to providing safe passage across our busy Interstates. A group in Tijeras Canyon east of Albuquerque has worked hard the last couple of years to create such passages across I-40. In the Galisteo Basin near Santa Fe, a coaltion of public and private entities are working on similar plans. Today, the Environment Defense Fund released a report about why these corridors are so important to helping wildlife survive increasingly fragmented habitat. Take a peak. Where else could New Mexico use safe corridors? Know of anyone else working on this issue? Replies to This Discussion Permalink Reply by John Hesse on February 13, 2009 at 8:53am Hi Stacey - we are working on the Galisteo Basin Preserve project and are looking for someone (a grad student perhaps?) who knows GIS/Arcview and might be able to compile all of the layers of migratory information (as well as other biology info) into a central database - with the purpose of how the Galisteo Basin fits into migration and habitat patterns. Do you know of any good sources/leads? The information is out there (County, Galisteo Basin Watershed, etc) but just needs to be consolidated...!
