What does 'sustainability' mean to you? As an artist, my inspiration has been nature’s bounty, cycles, the laws of natural order. All creatures on the planet are inter-related, dependent on one another in some way and on the abundant resources of our world. I am fascinated with the indigenous peoples, how they always knew of these relationships and kept the planetary forces ‘alive’ with their rituals and blessings, something we seem to have forgotten in modern days. I like my work to be reminders of these things. What do you do to try and live green and what would you like to learn more about? My focus on Solar Etching and Printmaking is a direct result of my intent to incorporate my work into a green world. During the printmaking process, I expose the etching plate in the sun which results in a totally nontoxic process. Then, using a press and water based inks, prints are produced. What concerns you most about the issues facing the environment, whether locally or globally? There is a certain balance and rhythm in nature's cycles, the sources of inner strength and touchstones to daily remembering of a very old and deep nurturance. I feel there is a grace in the Earth's life forms that pulsates through, feeds from and to every other being. My greatest concern is that this balance is being uprooted, perhaps forever.
