Rail Runner: Work on city streets hits snag

Construction work on city intersections that need new safety features before Rail Runner commuter trains arrive won't begin as soon as the state Department of Transportation had planned.

While work had been aimed at starting next week, city councilors haven't reached agreement on a timeline. On Monday, City Councilor Matthew Ortiz expressed concern about traffic delays and nighttime construction noise and asked the state to provide an alternative schedule.

But officials from the city Public Wo… Continue

LANL: Fungus could be key to cheaper ethanol production

Fungus has sort of grown on Diego Martinez over the years.

Not literally, of course.

But the more the Los Alamos National Laboratory scientist learns about fungus, the more fascinated he becomes with it , and with finding new uses for it, he said.

While looking at the genetic code in one kind of fungus — the cryptically named Trichoderma reesei — Martinez recently found something that could help wean the nation off its dependence on foreign oil, he said.

He discovered a sequence of genes tha… Continue

N.M. 63 winds through the steep-sided canyon along the Pecos River. Through the summer, thousands of people use the fe… Continue

Suggestion! I really wanted to go help plant trees at the Agua Fria thingie Saturday - at San Ysidro Park. I spent an hour on the Internet trying to find DIRECTIONS there (I live in Santa Fe). Nada nada. Neither the city, nor Green Line, nor any other site, told me where the park was, so I didn't go. Might be a good idea for those submitting info to TELL US HOW TO GET THERE!
